Description

COST
The project concerns the redevelopment of the former Cinema Corso, located along Corso Fogazzaro in the historic center of Vicenza, with the aim of transforming it into a cultural incubator dedicated to contemporary art. The building, currently disused yet deeply rooted in the collective memory, is returned to the city as a place for social interaction, cultural production, and experimentation, capable of engaging in dialogue with the historic heritage and emerging artistic practices.
Situated along one of the city’s most vibrant urban axes, the former cinema currently represents a discontinuity in the urban fabric. Its reactivation therefore becomes an opportunity for regeneration, strengthening the attractiveness of Corso Fogazzaro and integrating it into the existing cultural system. The project transforms a place of passive consumption into an active and shared cultural device.
The proposal preserves the historic façade and external envelope, while the interior spaces are completely stripped and reorganized through a flexible steel structure, conceived as a “scenic machine” adaptable over time. The core of the intervention is the large central hall, reconfigured as a modular “covered piazza,” equipped for performances, exhibitions, meetings, and multidisciplinary events, maintaining a visual continuity with the public space.
The functional program includes experimental workshops, multipurpose rooms, spaces for cultural operators, offices, temporary artist residencies, and a public rooftop garden conceived as a place for meeting and participation. Particular attention is given to environmental sustainability, universal accessibility, and energy efficiency.
Overall, the project goes beyond the mere rehabilitation of a building, proposing a cultural and urban vision that combines historical memory and innovation, returning to the city a new active and inclusive hub.
Project developed in collaboration with the working group formed by Arch. Davide Cecconello and Arch. Tommaso Mauro.
